Diary of Miss X: NYC April 2010

By Destroyx | April 29, 2010

Oh no! I fell off the blogging wagon over the last few weeks (due to my band touring & moving country), but I’m going to restart my blogging challenge to post with more regularity this week, as I find I’m always much happier when I can connect with you all. How did you all go with your challenges?

PACKING FOR LONDON: A recent turn of events has resulted in me spontaneously moving to London after the current UK Angelspit tour. So with mixed feelings I packed my belongings and said farewell to the East Village. As I was packing my hair accessories up, I thought I’d take a quick snap shot of some of the head bands I’ve accrued over the last few months in the states. They pretty much sum up my current style: sequins, mouse ears, giant bows, polka dots and stripes.

MUGSHOT ROUNDUP: I spent this week changing my look more times than most which is why I think it’s valuable to take daily mugshots to document my style mutations for posterity.

EXPLORING THE GARMENT DISTRICT: I had a whole bunch of photoshoots this week to prepare for so I went on the prowl for some material in the amazing garment district of NYC. I can highly recommend MJ Trimmings for offering the highest quality and best range of trims in the world. The first time I walked into the store I pretty much had a trimgasm and stood for 10 minutes with my mouth wide open as I beheld the array of trims before me. If you can dream about it, they probably have it (yes that also includes black embroidered military skull bullions).

DIY LACE BUNNY EARS: Although Hot Topic has a pretty nice version of the Maison Michel lace bunny ears that everyone has been sporting, I thought it would be fun to make some myself, especially considering that I had the Dances of Vice Alice in Wonderland themed ball to wear them to. I followed this tutorial by Monoxious to make mine.

MAKEUP + MODELLING MADNESS: I spent a lot of time this week working and shooting makeup looks for future Miss X Makeup Mayhem tutorials and Miss X vs. Sugarpill mashups.

TRAVELLING: Boston, Manchester, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Queens and all the way back to the East Village. I spent far too much time on buses this week.

ANGELSPIT VS. ALICE: To kick start our US/UK tour we played the Alice in Wonderland themed Stimulate at Crash Mansion in NYC. I had a blast as is to be expected from all Stimulate parties.

AMELIA vs. CORNELIUS: Here’s a shout out to Neil, my NYC counterpart in mischief who I will miss dearly when I move to London.

Made of awesome list! - Free wifi on fancy interstate buses, tearing it up every night for my last nights in NYC, listening to advance secret copies of new albums from one of my favorite bands, drunken midnight makeout sessions, counting down the days until the ultimate Team Nerd hang out, being the errant merch girl for the end of the Sorry and the Sinatras tour, writing love songs and break up zines, the realization I will be playing European summer festivals with two of my favourite bands of all time (Skinny Puppy & Placebo), getting texts from friends asking ‘hey want to be in my hot asian girl possy to go latin dancing with Pat Field?’, planning London adventures which include magician demonstrations and dinosaur exhibitions, watching the sunrise on the lower east side, being able to combat misery with overwhelming glee, everything falling apart and falling exactly into place.

On the playlist - Golden Skans - Klaxons, Beware - Deftones, Let’s Make Out - Does It Offend You Yeah?, Attack Music - These New Puritans, Anti-Orgasm - Sonic Youth

Hope your last few weeks have been amazing, I wanna hear all about your adventures in the comments!

Welcome to London! I really hope you have a good time here and the move goes smoothly.

Thank you for the London gig as well, it was so f*cking awesome, and I was really glad to meet you afterwards.

Don’t want to sound like a crazy stalker but I think you may have been in contact at some point with a photographer (who happens to be my housemate and friend) ‘Aiko273′?
I hope you have a chance to do a shoot with them at some point and I have a chance to meet you again. :)

    best wishes

Just bought my M’era Luna ticket yesterday.. sadly you’ll just perform in Hildesheim this year..but hey.. longer time no Angelspit concert here..so we will rock the fucking stage off! :D
This is soo damn great that Skinny Puppy will play there (I’ll even will see them at Amphi-Festival).. just meet cEvin last year in Tokyo.
So I’m getting to explode after this summer because of all the great band I’ll see this summer. I’m so excited
    //
BTW: I print some BAAL-bags myself with silkscreen (I found a little factory in Berlin where u can print them by yourself)..they are pretty badass I think, hope they will arrive safely in Tokyo.

Ah a 2nd BTW did you check the Milkshakestore in Worcester?

Good luck, a lot of creativity and best wishes from Berlin,
    Chris

LOVING you in the uber blonde pics with your hair down…but then you rock all the looks :) Hehe, I got into headbands a lot this year too, and did a video DIY http://www.bit.ly/aEYXdX (basic, but it’s a start!) I know what you mean by trimgasm - had one the first time I went to Okadaya in Japan.

Your life sounds hectic but awesome - touring at same festival as Placebo??!! Look forward to hearing more of your adventures, and seeing more looks :) Love, L xxx

YAY your in London! If you are in London, as well as TG you should pay a visit to Antichrist - It terms itself an “Industrial, Fetish, Mayhem” club and it’s awesome!!! Next one is 7th May (next Friday) and the theme is religious debauchery and immorality so come along! (I’m one of the excited people you met at Slimelight a few weeks ago.)

Oh and don’t supposed you would be interested in doing an interview for my blog: Missjades Alternative Music & Culture Blog *puppy eyes*? I did a nice review of the gig a few weeks ago….

You’ve moved around a lot these past few months, haven’t you?

Your Alice in Wonderland-themed costume is really cute.

I got red streaks in my hair for a hair show (they also dyed my hair darker as a base):

i dont think i could ever get sick of your posts…oh and i love the look with your hair down and all puffy at the back. how did you do it?

  21. Queen Titania Says:
    April 30th, 2010 at 3:12 am

I usually feel like my month has been pretty full if I’ve visited Boston, New York, Philly and points in between, let alone packing up for London and a tour on top of it!

Your show at Stimulate was fantastic, but anyone who is reading your blog is probably going to think that. A friend of mine listened to the MP3s you have on the Angelspit myspace and found it very “meh.” She was really impressed by the live show! So when someone is lukewarm on your music has their opinion turned around your live shows must be doing something right.

I am glad you are blogging again, your radness and excitement always makes me want to go out and get shit accomplished. Which I did in the last few weeks getting myself booked for two latex fashion shows, a shoot, and hopefully getting ready to launch my site soon, and hopefully helping finishing shooting of a sci fi, TS porn epic!

rensa- I know.. such a good track. I listen to it on repeat. teehee..

Disposable Darling- Yeah I have moved around a lot. Hopefully I’ll have some stability over the next few months because it’s actually driving me nuts! Ohh.. and I love the red streak in your hair!

diane - Thanks Diane! I’m glad you like what I do. =)

    prettycannibalgirl- Lots of back combing!

Queen Titania- Wow, it sounds like you’re getting up to a lot! Oh and thanks for coming to Stimulate, it was an awesome show and I had a great time.

Porcelaine- It’s a great store, you can shop online too which is pretty rad.

Heck yea, welcome to London! (even though I don’t quite live in London technically)
I can’t believe I missed your London gig though. I found out about it the next day; what was I doing?!

  25. Mahlin Says:

Those headbands made me seriously wonder why I haven’t gotten myself one like that yet… I’m planning on making one out of latex gloves. I was at a hospital some days ago, they gave me some real syringes, so now I have decorations, too!
Oh, and I love your hairstyles! Especially the first one. Very few asians look good in blonde, but you actually pull that colour off :)
And thanks for the trims website link, I’ve been in dire need of trims of the right colour for my prom dress… the local stores just don’t have any :(

But look at me rambling, I’m sorry, but I also need to ask soemthing, and I thought that maybe you should know this: Does PVC need to be hemmed? I’m thinking of making a garment that will have holes cut in it, and it will not be cool if the edges of those holes start to look weird.

Yay, my DESTROY necklace came today!

Do you remember me from Sunderland, I said I was too young for paypal. xD I tried it again and it worked!

I’ll be first in line to buy something from your new collection! I hope there’s something ‘Wolf’ based in there. I know the DESTROY one is partly, that’s why I bought it. :) Would also love to see a ‘Maggot’ badge/button. :)

Keep up the good work, Amelia. We all LOVE it.
