Become your dream

By Destroyx | March 16, 2010

Yesterday as I was walking back from the laser cutting workshop in Tribecca with samples from my new line, I stumbled upon this piece of wood which someone had scrawled ‘become your dream’ onto and I immediately had to take a photograph of it and share it with you all. Stumbling upon that sign made me reflect about how ‘becoming your dream’ is always a possibility for everyone.

I’d like to share an example from my life about this has happened for me. Below is a picture of me from the first ever day I spent roaming around the streets of New York. One of my first stops was to visit the famous Patricia Field boutique on Bowery where I had to get a dorky happy snap in front of the shop to commemorate my visit.

Who would have thought that only a few months later, the debut Miss X Jewellery collection would be stocked at the Patricia Field boutique and proudly displayed in their glass showcase in the accessories section? Well, it goes to show that you can’t dream too big and that nothing is impossible.

So my lovelies, dream big, live large and don’t ever forget how brilliant you are!

P.S. If there was something you wanted to achieve in your life, what steps are you taking to making it become a reality? How about trying a 30 day challenge to see if you can make some headway into achieving your goals? This month, my 30 day challenge is to work on my blog on a regular basis, as it’s a habit I’d very much like to cultivate and have had trouble with in the past. If you’d like to join me on a challenge too, leave a comment as I (and other destroyx.com readers) would love to hear about it!

    Got to love that board.
Funny how such surprising things can cross your path on a regular day, where you least expect it.

    My 30 day challenge?
Learning a new language and getting closer to my goal of being able to support myself through my art and photography!

this “become your dream” sign is probably a piece by de la vega…an artist in east harlem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_De_La_Vega). his work is interesting…he usually does chalk drawings on the street downtown.

anyway, my dream…? i would love to display my artwork in a gallery. that would be my dream. i am working towards it and figuring out how to do that…and i KNOW that one day it will happen.

    love your blog!

I would love a write a novel or any long written piece of that kind. (I never get around to doing NaNoWriMo.) But next month is National Screenplay Writing Month over at ScriptFrenzy (http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/), and maybe I could do that.

Inspiring post… The idea of ‘becoming your dream’ is really lovely.
And congrats for getting your jewellery into the Patricia Field boutique!

I’d like to improve my poetry. I’m making progress, but it’s quite slow at the moment. Getting in some regular time writing for the 30 day challenge sounds like a good idea!

Strange, but you never get unexplained inspiration boards around the streets of Blighty…
I reckon my 30 day challenge is complete all my outstanding coursework and revise for exams so I can get into my dream university… St Andrews, Scotland :D

@MissDTM - Yep, that’s De La Vega! He gets up all over the LES and Lower Manhattan, and I remember being similarly moved by one of his doodles on the street. :) There’s a “museum” of his work on St. Marks that usually has fun sculptures and such outside.

My goal for this month has been to start getting more creative freelance work to supplement my day job, and to stop working for free. It’s hard, especially when you want to help out your friends with their design/illustration needs, but I know I need to view and value myself as a professional, and charge what I am worth. So far, so good!

    Thanks, DestroyX.

A couple days ago, I took the first steps down the path of my dream: I started a blog about my writing and helping others find inspiration. I hope this will get me more readers and one day help me become a published author. It was a small step, but thanks to the support of you, Zoog, and many others, I feel my dream becoming reality. Thank you so much for posting a link to it on your FB Angelspit fanpage! I doubled the fans on my own fanpage that day thanks to you <3

I’m definitely taking the 30-day challenge. I’m typically not very motivated, so I think this would be the perfect time to make up for it. So, I’ll try to not procrastinate on anything for 30 days. It’s gonna be difficult for me, but I’m sure it will be worth it.
And no, I will not procrastinate on beginning the 30-day challenge as a workaround.

I’ve actually been writing a post on it ha ha… great minds think alike perhaps ;) So glad you’ll be doing more posts! I love your writing… hugs & love! B xo

After reading, I decided to come up with my own little 30-day challenge, my room. Not only will I be cleaning, but I am going to arrange my furniture and add new things like pretty shelving.

My goal for today is to print out inspiration and references to pin on my wall to get the creativity juiced flowing.

    Oh my goodness! Congratulations!
My 30 day challenge is to improve my grades, while still making time for my music.
I also want to just maintain a positive outlook and not let the little things get me down.

PS: I am very much looking forward to Angelspit’s upcoming remix CD! :D

Great post! I’d love to try the 30 day trial, but I’m not sure on what. I honestly don’t want to give up coffee even for 30 days… but maybe I should dare myself to walk the stairs up to the flat every day? That’s not as easy as it may sound… I live on the 27th floor! :D

    Jennie- YOU CAN DO IT!

Suuz- Yeah I’m so glad I stopped to take a photo of it, because I came back the next day and it was gone! Great to hear about your photography and art and I’m sure you’ll be able to succeed with it.

missDTM- Oooh.. thanks so much for that link to the artist! Oh and it’s also my dream to become an exhibiting gallery artist!.. it’s on the to-do list for sure.

Disposable Darling- setting a goal for that convention sounds like a great plan! Good luck.

Terradoll- OOhh… a poetry fest sounds freaking awesome!

Omega- Yes study hard and you’ll be able to get into your dream school. You can totally do it!

Lenora Jayne- I have that same problem about being able to charge what I’m worth, it’s something I’m working on slowly at the moment as I build up my portfolio… but good luck to you on the same front too!

chris/devntone- Thanks for the encouragement Chris… you rule and best of luck for getting your personal affairs in check.

Natan- I know, it’s awesome huh?

Gally- I’m so happy that you were able to go down the path to promoting your writing, that sounds awesome. I wish you all the best with it and look forward to reading more of it for sure.

Shaylynn- Oo… that’s a great idea for a challenge. Overcoming procrastination is so difficult, but so rewarding when you actually can do it!

SadLullaby- You can totally do it!

2ndWorld- Wow.. custom made straight jackets sound amazing! Good luck with your sewing sweet heart.

Bianca- HELL YEAH! Man.. we’re totally connected in awesomeness even though we are on the other sides of the world I look forward to the outcomes of your challenge. =)

Elphey- That’s a great challenge. You will like an article I will be posting soon which is about cultivating a creative environment.

Thomas - Those are great goals to try to achieve and I totally wish you the best of luck with that.

Maggie Makeup Addict- I could never give up caffeine.. but try to think of something you’d like to make a positive change on in your life. It could be wanting to make more friends or be more creative.. or do more exercise (the stairs thing sounds brutal. I live on the 6th floor and it’s a bitch to walk up those stairs!).

Jana- I LOVE that website and I’m glad you liked it too.. I’m so happy it inspired you as much as it inspired me too. Good luck with improving your health, that’s something I’d like to so in the near future too.

tried to peek at the 30 day thing, but instead got something an encoding problem - anyway, sounds like what I started at the end of November 2009. I do a 2 or 3 day review, that is, am I where I was 30 days ago, and if, so why haven’t I moved forward - keeps me on my toes.

I think this is the lovliest post ever :)
I’m going to do the ‘30 days to success’ thing, and I think that this post is the kick I need to start towards my dreams :)

    My challenge is:
Get an A in Maths, so I get into my top university choice, my first step on the road into journalism :)

Funny thing is the walls on the Patricia Fields boutique have De La Vega drawings all over them. The last time i peeked in the paintings were all covered. She may have painted over them since.
