KMFDM vs Angelspit Tour Diary Part 2: Portland to Dallas
By Destroyx | January 4, 2010
Now for the second installment of my KMFDM tour adventure… (click here for part 1 if you missed it.)
SHOW_18-October 14 - Portland, OR - Wonder Ballroom
In Portland, I had the pleasure of meeting my evil twin Nubby Twiglet. I have been a great admirer of Nubby’s blog, design work and fashion sense for ages so I was so happy that she came down to the show for some rock and roll action. For those of you who were wondering, no we didn’t plan our outfits to match in advance, but I think we both knew it was going to happen.
SHOW_19-October 15 - San Francisco, CA - The Grand
Zoog at soundcheck. The venue was a super amazing hall with chandeliers.

I was really happy that Star was able to come to the show, it was awesome to meet her in real life. In case you didn’t know, Star is a talented illustrator, designer, musician, blogger & jewellery designer.

I also got to meet another internet buddy Shrinkle in San Francisco and she’s super amazing to behold in real life. She’s a bundle of fun energy. Also her boy Kevin is a lovely guy and a ridiculously talented designer.
Diner stop after the show.

SHOW_20-October 16 - Los Angeles, CA - Club Nokia
Our tour buses were the two on the left. The two on the right were Jamie Fox’s tour buses. I wanted to swap our green/beige tour bus for the red one.
Zoog found a Michael Jackson memorial wall near the Nokia Theatre and wrote a thank you message to him.
Zoog lounging around inside our tour bus. Our bus was called the ‘Zeus’ and had a kitschy Greco-Roman theme for its interior decoration.
The roof of our bus was mirrored and had LED strip lighting. Super tacky!
For once we got our full rider (coke zero, red bull and water) so I had to document it.
Our day sheet for LA.
Shrinkle had to de-robe backstage because she was having issues with her underwear.
Shrinkle and I exchange makeup (she is launching a range soon called Sugarpill) and Lumi is looking cute.
We are trying to be super kawaii here and ‘asian’. I think we fail.
Making a huge mess backstage while getting ready.
Our greenroom in LA, resplendent with zebra print rugs, which I thought was very ‘LA’
One of our biggest fans surprised us by flying all of the way from London to be at our LA show. Gareth is nuts.
After show diner fix.
Shrinkle, Lumi and I all thought it was a good idea to remove our false eyelashes and fake hair at the diner.
SHOW_21-October 17 - Pomona, CA - The Glasshouse
We visited the best modular synth store called Noise Bug. Zoog went on a shopping spree.
Zoog taking a moment backstage, while Jules shaves Andy’s mohawk into submission.
Iron Jeff at the merch stand.
STORY: We played a few shows with a great gothic rock band called Legion Within. Their lead singer William was rocking out on stage when he jumped into the crowd and landed badly on his ankle. He finished the rest of the set in a lot of pain, but still managed to BRING THE ROCK! Afterwards his ankle swelled up considerably, but everyone seemed to think that he had just sprained his ankle. We found out a few days later that the ankle was actually fractured. He managed to finish the tour in style with a cane on stage.
LESSON: See a doctor immediately for any kind of rock and roll related trauma, or you will pay for it down the road. Also, don’t listen to people that say ‘if you can move it… it’s not broken.’
SHOW_22-October 18 - San Diego, CA - House Of Blues
Backstage in San Diego

Me with Jessica, the manager for Legion Within. She was amazing enough to help us vend merch at a few shows. She was so awesome.
Here I am with William the lead singer from Legion Within. He is made of rock!
DAY OFF - October 18 - Las Cruces
One of the weirder places to eat in Las Cruces. Here you could get ‘Hamburgers, Breakfast, Mexican Food’ AND ‘Donuts Drive Thru.’ Score.
RECOLLECTION: Days off are always welcome on tour, especially if you’ve done 7 shows back to back. We had a break in a small town called Las Cruces where there wasn’t much to do other than go on a Walmart shopping spree and then head over to Applebees for a fine serving of American cuisine.
SHOW_23-October 19 - Phoenix, AZ - The Marquee

RANDOM CONVERSATION:
Kaptain K: Your makeup looks interesting today.
Amelia: Yeah? Why’s that?
Kaptain K: Your eyelash things make it look like you have flies on your face.
Amelia: Yup, that’s the look I was going for.
With Zombie, one of our most ardent supporters.
Zombie’s Angelspit tattoo.
KMFDM rocking out under the watchful eye of Duncan the stage manager.
SHOW_24-October 21 - Dallas, TX - The Granada

RECOLLECTION: When we arrived in Dallas it was pouring rain, which was not the kind of weather I was expecting in Texas. Even the people at the venue and at the show were confused by the rain and were walking around with big jackets on. It rained so hard that our tour bus sprung a leak.

RECOLLECTION: The Granada theatre was a beautiful historical venue that used to be a cinema but has now been converted into a retro rock and roll venue. The only downside to this was that the stage had a slope to it which meant that all of the gear that was on wheels kept rolling off the stage.

Iron Jeff and I at the merch stand of doom.
Seafood restaurant I wanted to eat at in Dallas… but alas, we had strange catering instead.

RANDOM CONVERSATION:
Jules: (to Amelia) Let me try your glasses on. (Puts them on) Woah… I can’t see a thing… what’s the point of drinking when I can just wear your glasses and get the same effect?
Andy: Oh oh… let me try.
Andy decided to give the glasses a go too.

Sad that NYE was kind of a bust.
Are you going to be coming back west anytime soon?
January 5th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Seems like American cuisine is all about deep-frying and burgers :D Such a guilty pleasure! Who can resist a good diner once and a while?
I can’t wait to see the next tour diary entree! I hope you have pics from Atlanta :3 It was a badass show!
<3XO

More soon!? =P <3
January 6th, 2010 at 5:13 am
Amazing pics. I agree with someone above, you should do video tutorials for your makeup - I love the photo ones but it’s much easier to show in a video than to describe in words :)
January 6th, 2010 at 3:05 pm
I was at your concert in phoenix ;D You two were amazing. I saw that guy, zombie, in the audience. I was at the front of the stage, but off to the side a bit.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:25 am

oh and i was wondering how long the sale on your website will last. i was planning on getting stuff this weekend for my birthday [wewt!] but now im debating on whether i should just go ahead and get it now…
January 7th, 2010 at 3:53 am

I am so glad you’re back *hugs hugs hugs* I have missed my daily dose of destruction SO much! I hope you had a wonderful christmas + new year :)
January 7th, 2010 at 11:27 am
Very awesome tour you’ve got going on! I’m glad you finally met Nubby Twiglet, she’s a fan of black white and red much like you! I wonder if both of you are Virgo’s too…?
January 7th, 2010 at 5:15 pm

I’d absolutely LOVE to see one of your shows!

Yume Ninja- aww.. we missed you. Next time though!
Jennie - Yeah Applebees was great, the portions are huge. I think it’s better than Crackerbarrel.
Marcus- Yup I made the hair myself… My hair is pretty short in real life.
Renee- Yeah all of my latex was custom made by Atsuko Kudo, Vex Clothing and Jane doe latex. I am wanting to get a flip video and then do some video tutorials! My camera at the moment sucks big time for this stuff.
Star- I’m glad I got to see you, even if only for a short time!! I am coming back west I think mid year… depends on finances =(
Gally Lines- I love food too… so you aren’t alone!
Jenni/sillyovaries- I’m posting that photo of us next post!
Izzy - I agree! I have to save for a little flip video so I can do some videos as I think they are easier to follow too.
DeathButterfly- Phoenix was an awesome show I think! Thanks for coming!
Fishy- My hair texture is not that great. I have strong hair normally.. but bleaching it really means that it does break a lot easier. You just need to be careful with the bleach and get it done by a pro.
Poppy- I love my nerdy glasses too! They are Rayban wayfarers. The wayfarers come in 2 sizes, and this is the smaller size (I have a small nose!)
Twisted- Good to see you back here honey! I’m sorry for the absence.. it won’t happen again!
Crysti- Nubby is my evil aesthetic twin.. =) I am not a virgo… I am a leo!
Blitz- Gareth is awesome isn’t he! I look forward to when you can come to one of our shows!

Yay, Shrinkle! I love that girl.
January 15th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
I think you guys actually stole the show at The Glasshouse. (I was in the pit shooting the show when William from Legion Within used me for support after he crashed into the pit and broke his ankle). Was really impressed, can’t wait for you to come back to L.A.
April 13th, 2010 at 8:40 am
I was there too see you at The Grand. I think I was possibly the youngest face in the audience. :) You guys put on an awesome show.
