Style Division: Little Miss Monochrome

By Destroyx | December 30, 2009

Freshly bleached white hair, a well cut jacket and a good pair of boots are all I need for winter. This monochromatic outfit has basically been my uniform for the past few weeks as the bitter cold has begun to creep its way into New York. I have been really obsessed with exaggerated silhouettes recently, hence the bubble skirt and puffy sleeved jacket.

In case you were wondering, I normally get my hair done in Sydney at Furr Hair (they are simply incredible!), but had the pleasure of getting my roots done with Flame at the Patricia Field Salon. He was awesome and put an iridescent violet colour through my blonde parts (so it has a shimmery violet overtone from certain angles. Woo… fancy!)

Zoog took these photographs in Brooklyn near one of the best diners I’ve ever been to (look how much apple pie and ice cream I got for $4!)

Bubble Dress and Puff Sleeve Jacket:
H&M
Scarf: Lip Service
Socks: The Sockman (St Marks Place- warning very addictive shop)
Ruched Leather Gloves:
Topshop
Patent Boots: Dr Martens

P.S. Isn’t weird that two of my favourite stores in New York are Topshop and H&M, both of which are European exports?

Everything about your outfit rocks! I love tiny, pouty doll-lips, they look great on you. Will you be doing a tutorial on this make-up?

(Your hair looks awesome, too. Evil super-villain hair FTW!)

    great hair colour!

I absolutely love your hair! My hair has purple/blue undertones in the white-blonde too… but I only got it because I left my silver shampoo in for too long…

Did you find that going from dark to light ruined your hair? Mine went slightly straw-like and no matter what I do it won’t soften out. The hair dressers get it fine and dandy, but it’s stupid all over again as soon as I wash it :( If your hair does that, how do you deal with it? Or you just have amazing hair (I think this is the more likely option)… haha.

The outfit; amazingly structured, we can’t expect anything but your best designing skills when you put a Style Division together. I love it.

:O Love the hair. I really like that eye makeup too, the way the black fades out to the white, very nice.

Have you been recognized by any fans on the street yet? ;D

    Whoa, that´s really evil look.
Your eyes are naturaly THAT blue or it´s lenses? If yes, how much you pay for them, i´ve seen lenses for like 50 dollars but friend of mine told me that he gets his at special shop for 150.
    Thanks :)

Love the photo in the diner most. You’re so incredibly cute in that one!

And I love the hair! I got mine nearly as white, but my roots still have a yellowish tint :(

Btw THANK YOU for reviving your blog :D

And I hope you had a merry christmas

    Love http://www.destroyx.com/images/style_snow_08.jpg

Thought you shopped it (The colors, anyway) for a second.. wait.. did you..? hmm…

Nice set though- And I hate monochromatic* pics.

@Marcus- You can grab some for around 50~. Custom lenses are more- Assuming you’re 20/20, you can grab them for somewhat cheap. Prepare for some pain though! =]

I love the boots! I have a huge (non-sexual) Dr Martens fetish - they’re super comfortable, and always look fabulous! I have those same boots - but in the knee-high version :D I’ve not been able to stop wearing them since I bought them!

The Sockman looks like an awesome site, almost as addictive as http://www.sockdreams.com/

Your makeup and hair looks absolutely stunning! I’m particularly fond of the the photograph of you in the cafe/ restaurant.

    Wow :)
    This look is incredible!
Your make up is so striking, and I love the hair :)
Your eyes just seem to pop out :)
I have blue undertones in the white-blonde part of my hair, which I love :) (I also love it when you’ve just had your roots done, or freshly dyed a different colour, nothing like it for a mood-boost!)
The clothes are amazing, every time you do one of these, I become more and more jealous of your wardrobe!
    xx

Remarkable Prettybones- I wasn’t planning on doing a tutorial because I don’t think I got any closeups. I might do one though, I’ll see!

Breana- Yeah my hair isn’t in the greatest condition at the moment, but it’s not bad considering the kind of hell I put it through. It is natural that your hair will go strawlike, because you are basically stripping the hair when you bleach it. I would suggest using conditioning treatments when you wash it. Also, try not too wash your hair and blow dry it too much because that can really dry it out. I only wash my hair about once a week, or once every too weeks. I find the natural oils help moisturise the hair.

    Videokid- Nope not yet =)

Marcus- It depends on whether you need prescription lenses or not. I need prescription lenses so they cost about $100 I think. I can’t remember. Just google ‘coloured contacts’ into google and a whole bunch of sites come up. Ask your optometrist which ones are safe for you.

HeartGrenade- YAY! we can be Dr Martens twins. I love them too.. they are my favourite thing at the moment, I wear them basically all of the time now. I also have skeleton boots too… and i hope to get more… soooo goood. Oh and that photo of me in the diner is my favourite one too… that’s me basically most of the time. I only put my mean face on for photographs.

Blitz - Man I so know what you mean.. I really needed a pick me up and after I got my hair done I felt so much better!

Alice - I know! Pie alamode is probably really bad for you… but sooo tasty.. yum. I also like pizza burgers =)

    Thomas- Aww.. thanks sweetie

yoshi- Fucking Aye… he’s awesome! I’m so glad I went there to get my hair done. I hope we can meet because I think we’d get along super fine. You have the same dr marten boots that I have.. weee! I’m going to be around for a few more weeks before heading off to Europe. When do you get back?

FLAME- Man I wish I could stay in NYC forever, I really love it. Thanks for doing such a fine job on my hair, you fucking rule! We should hang out soon if you are not too busy! Let’s go and get Malaysian food. =)

Disposable Darling- Tramping in snow is fun! Until it starts to melt that is.

marilyn - thanks for saying so!

Hamburg- Thanks! I need to update my flickr with bigger versions… one day when I get time.

Jennie- I live 2 blocks from st marks… oh and of course I got to trash and vaudeville… my favourite store

Katie Hazard- I absolutely love the city, I don’t wanna go!

    Edita - aww… you’re sweet

    chris/devntone- diner = awesome

Jessica- I KNOW!.. it was snowing only a few moments ago.. but it just stopped and now it’s going to be slushy. Poop.

Jenni/sillyovaries- Hey! I’m going to post a photo of us soon… woo!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love your style and I’m jealous of how you can pull off such daring looks.

I was wondering, what do you bleach your hair with? I’ve got Asian hair too that I’m so careful with and I’ve been meaning to bleach in the underlayers but I don’t want it to turn out all stiff or fall out on me.

Happy New Year!! I’m really digging the alternative make-up and I love the darker lipstick on you :) Love the patent docs too - I looked everywhere in the UK for aqua, purple or lime ones; let me know if you find any, aye?

A happy new year, Amelia :)
This look is pretty cool. It looks elegant and re~ally fabulous but not too overdressed at the same time. I was surprised when I saw your boots, I got actually the same pair (except the brand, mine are from Alpha London).
Patent boots, fishnets, a dress and knee socks ftw! (It’s what actually makes winter a better time, I fully agree with you.)

    Best wishes from Germany.

    Please read all of this.

I’m looking for a career in make up and hair for myself, but I was a little apprehensive about it, mostly because I was afraid that meant not being myself anymore. Turning into some snob and wearing light, boring make up for the rest of my life was not something I was looking forward to.

I found this site about a year ago and it changed my whole perspective. I was so happy to learn about all your make up tips and even bought the products you mentioned. I was unafraid to do whatever I wanted to my face while still looking professional, or simply looking fantastic with blown-out eyes. I loved the art, I loved the clothes, I loved this site so much and looked for new updates on even more stuff to try out nearly every day.

Unfortunately, life isn’t very nice sometimes and I was forced to step back from my computer for a few weeks… and I come back to all this!

What the hell? Your website is nothing more then an average livejournal! You do nothing but talk about your day and take pictures with friends. What is this, MYSPACE? I was inlove with this place, and it is YOUR place so please feel free to do what you want with it, but this is horribly disappointing.

What happened to being individual? What happened to showing everyone that make up is an art style and helping people to understand that they don’t have to be common and boring? What happened to showing how make up can make an outfit, of any kind? I learned to be more confident with myself and to try new techniques with my own art because of what you would put up, and now…

Now coming here is a waste of my time. You’re a wanna-be punk now adays. It’s really sad to see. I’m never coming back.

    Loving the monochrome look

The eyes really blow my mind. I love how you put blue underneath to give it some variety and have started doing the same myself - which is a nice step away from my usual ‘blacker than black’ look!

Lovelovelove the patent DMs. I bought my boyfreind an identical pair for his birthday, now I’m jelous!
