The Diary of Miss X: Hiatus Edition

By Destroyx | December 15, 2009

Dear lovely readers! It has been too long since my last update. Various personal issues beyond my control prevented me from connecting with you all, which has pained me greatly over the last few months. However, I am super happy to be blogging again and look forward to bringing you large daily doses of creativity and inspiration. I have been working hard over the past few weeks to create a steady stream of content. (I have over 25 posts queued!) So please check back daily for your daily dose of destruction!

Since I last wrote, I relocated to the other side of the world, went on a huge 33 show USA tour with my band, released an album, had too many adventures to count, experienced utter highs and some devastating disappointments and heart breaks in the roller coaster that is my life!

I will be playing ‘catch up’ for a few weeks with my photo posts which I will be attempting to publish chronologically. I also have a tour diary lined up, as well as silly chronicles of my USA adventures ready to roll.

Miss X Eyelashes

MISS X PROGRESSES: For the last few months I have been working hard on my cosmetics line. In this picture you can see a sample of the false eyelash packaging that unfortunately is not going to be mass produced. I am still working on finding a better packaging supplier before unveiling any new eyelash styles.

Perspex acryllic jewelry line

PERSPEX JEWELRY LINE: One of my recent endeavours has been to design a range of perspex jewelry to be sold at Angelspit shows. Here you can see some print outs of the prototype designs. I will be unveiling the range online in approximately one month.

Costume design corsets

ALWAYS DESIGNING: When I wasn’t designing new products, I was filling my notebook with concepts for new outfits for photoshoots or performance. I will be working with some of my favourite corsetiers and latex designers to realise some of these concepts, as I am too far away from my sewing machine to do so myself. I love collaborating with talented designers as I always find that you can push the final outcome to heights you wouldn’t have been able to do as a solo creator.

Miss X orders

MISS X ORDERS: One of my favourite things about running a makeup label and small business is sending out fabulous packages to customers so that they can have fun with bright makeup too!

Hideous Perfect design mockups

GRAPHIC DESIGN (with plush toys): I worked long and hard on the graphic design for the latest Angelspit release Hideous and Perfect. Here you can see my plush toys intently checking the pagination mockups for any errors. I always try to make a miniature mockup of any booklet before sending it off to press, because there is nothing worse than getting a booklet back with mismatched page spreads!

Miss X Stockiests

MISS X EXPANDS: Miss X cosmetics are now available from three stockiests in Australia, Gallery Serpentine (Sydney), Red Stripe (Perth) and Visage and Vice (Melbourne). In this picture you can see some of the fun colours I sent out to one of the stockiests.

Star trek recovery

RECOVERY FROM HARD WORK STAR TREK STYLE: After working at a break neck speed for a few months, I had a bit of a brain melt down. I remedied this with some intensive DVD therapy, watching my favourite musicals and tv shows back to back. I don’t recommend working too hard, otherwise you’ll have to watch seven seasons of Star Trek the Next Generation to recover like I did.

Lindt Cafe Spotty Cake

PRETTY FOOD IS AWESOME: Food tastes so much better when it’s beautiful. That’s why I love petite desserts like this one from the Lindt cafe. I seem to always buy food that either red/black/white or agrees with my aesthetic sensibilities (e.g. this cake has a polka dot pattern which is one of my favourite patterns). I think I might be a little OCD.

Pirate Party Cockatoo Island

TURNING 24: In August I had a week of birthday celebrations to celebrate turning the big two four. I had a Japanese dinner party, a Belgian mussels night and a pirate picnic. The best celebration by far was the pirate picnic where I (Captain X) led a perfidious band of scallywags to Skull Island (Cockatoo Island) where we embarked upon a super fun treasure hunt and picnic! Here you can see me with my friend Yiying (one of my design school buddies and designer of the infamous Twitter Fail Whale).

Pirate Part Cockatoo Island

AHOY!: On our commandeered pirate ship (erm… actually pirate ‘ferry’) enroute to the island.

Chocolate Crackens

CHOCOLATE CRACKENS: Every year I get older, my birthday parties get sillier and more child like. Instead of a birthday cake, I decided to make ‘chocolate crackles’ which I renamed as ‘chocolate crackens’, resplendent with tentacles, pirate ships and eye monsters. Chocolate crackles for all of you who are unfamiliar with this childhood delicacy, are rice crispies (rice bubbles) held together with cocoa, sugar, dessicated coconut and solidified coconut oil. The tentacle design is courtesy of my friend Emily who runs the Baroque and Roll fashion label.

Censorship stickers for Hideous Perfect

HIDEOUS AND PERFECT RELEASED: One of the most exciting things I accomplished recently was releasing the latest (and best!) Angelspit CD called Hideous and Perfect. I will be blogging more about the concept behind the design this week. In the above photograph you can see the ‘warning’ stickers that Zoog and I had to affix to every CD so that stores could legally sell the CDs.

Welcome back, Miss X! I’m so happy to see that you’re posting again. I happened to chance upon this little gem of a website during your hiatus, and I thought I’d wait until you returned before commenting on how amazing it is to read your posts. It’s so nice to see somebody put such time and effort into providing a service for the fans. You don’t get that a lot these days, unfortunately. The best part is that you have a fantastic sense of style, which makes these posts all the more special.

Funny coincidence? I took the exact same cruise to Skull Island for an employee day at work, clad head-to-toe in Goth pirate gear. The treasure hunt around the island was awesome, and I definitely got some well-needed exercise running around for clues. I guess this is just one of the (many) reasons why Australia rocks.

Congratulations on going international, by the way. I can’t wait to see more of those brilliant colours sometime soon (I still have to save up enough money to order some), and the promise of Perspex jewellery, numerous more blog posts and a future endeavour into corsetry makes me feel not unlike a preteen with her first celebrity crush.

I must state, for the record, that you rock. Though I’m sure everybody already knows that, of course. ;)

enough rambling. glad to know youre back here.

It is great to read that you’re back!! I love your blog and you really do inspire me. I tried your Freyagushi look for Halloween and it turned out….ok.

People kept thinking I was dressed as a geisha, but I was a vampire, dammit.

I’m excited about your pending jewelry line!! Those designs are exquisite and I’m hoping I can get my hands on a couple pieces.

    Welcome back Miss X!

I have been lucky enough to purchase some of your makeup line from Red Stripe in Perth. I love it to bits! I need more money so I can stock up because it will get loved and well used.

I love chocolate crackles. I was eating Rice Bubbles the other day and I had a massive craving for them when I saw the recipe on the side of the box, unfortunately we didn’t have all the ingredients.

I’m looking forward to your future posts.

prettycannibalgirl- I look forward to putting up the perspex necklaces too… we are just waiting to get the packaging sorted out.

Breana- Thanks for supporting us, it really makes all of the difference and I hope you enjoyed the makeup. Yeah I now have a craving for chocolate crackles, but we can’t get all of the ingredients here so I’m going to have to wait until I’m back in Australia to make them again.

X: Wheee, business = not fun! Sorry. :(
I made it to the NYC show, actually! I got to say hi to y’all before the masses of people came down. You guys are so awesome. > w<)y I had the unfortunate mix of getting a fever and a migraine while at the show, so I didn’t get to see things as much as I could have if I wasn’t. e_e I am so excited that they’ll be available soon, though! I will feel a lot better with them in my hands.
I very recently got my package from the US HQ and I was so happy. My hunt for the elusive syringe pen with actual liquid (the ones I got from AU were always out of liquid by the time they got to me!) is over~ I cannot wait to get more. :) I always have people asking for them (and the pill boxes) because they’re so eye catching to them. What’s better is that it takes just two days to get to me since I live just two hours away. <3 Thank you guys so much for this! I cannot wait for the havok that’s coming up.

Sorry to hear you’ve had a tough time, I hope it all works out =)

You’ve made me want to have a kiddie birthday party now! (Which sucks, because I’ve just settled on the theme! That, and my friends will refuse to dress up as usual!)
I’m so happy for you aout the make up line :) Everything is looking amazing (although I haven’t any money at the moment to order!) and the perspex jewellary line loots awesome :)

Yoshi- aww… *blushes* Thanks for the encouragement I need to keep going!

Ribii- Thanks sweetheart for the support.

Catherine- Thanks for meeting me at the show. I’m glad we got to meet. Also, thanks for buying stuff from our merch store, that is really awesome of you! Sorry about the liquid being dried up from the pens you purchased from Australia. Sometimes that happens and I don’t know why! =(

Froggie- Medical birthday party sounds awesome!!! Yeah I’ve had a few super rough kind of months, but I’m getting through it and picking up the pieces. Creativity can get you through!

Trashtastika- Hey leanne! Thanks for finding me on the interwebs… woo… yeah I’ve been working hard on the blog because I’m going to be doing some serious travelling over the next few months so I need to have posts up my sleeve.

Yay I’m glad you’re back, cause your blog posts are super!! But please…”Various personal issues beyond my control prevented me from connecting with you all” ?! 2 minutes to write a ” I won’t be able to update for a while” post or whatever would have been great cause the beyond your control line (when you were quite obviously able to access the internet at least some of the time) just sounds like pretentious wankery :(

Aww I’m so glad you’re back Miss X!! I’m supposed to be getting <> for X-mas this year and am incredibly excited to finally have it! the samples you guys posted on your Vampirefreaks are simply jaw-dropping amazing, in my humble opinion :D

And please, for your own sake, don’t listen to the assholes bitching and complaining about your (completely justified) absence.. as if you actually are obligated to the constant upkeep of your blog and owe us ANYTHING at all.. you’ve been busier in the past year than im sure many of us will be in our entire lives. those of us who really care are grateful for all the wonderful and time-consuming posts you have been kind enough to give us, and completely understand the impossibility of maintaining it during your hectic year.
