Makeup Mayhem: Miss X vs Freyagushi

Eyes: Miss X Aesthetic Laboratories (Tormentor eyeliner, SH-101, Car Crash Red, Coma, Black Alice, Blue Monday glitter), MAC Eye Kohl in ‘Smolder’ & Two Faced Shadow Insurance.
Eyelashes: Stitched to my Heart & Purr
Lips: Rimmel 3D Shock Gloss & MAC Lip gloss Holiday ‘Royal Assets’
Face: MAC Studio Fix, MAC Select Cover-up, MAC Beauty Powder Blush in ‘Feeling’ & MAC Studio Stick Concealer

Apply your foundation as you would normally. I like to use MAC Studio Fix as it’s a very blendable foundation which offers a lot of coverage. I also use MAC Select Cover-up to cover darkness under the eyes and any redness on the face.
On the cheeks apply a dusty rose coloured blush in soft circles on the cheek bones and slightly below them for that ‘doll like’ look. I used MAC Beauty Powder Blush in ‘Feeling’. I also like to apply some blush on the temples to give some contour to the forehead.
To achieve an extremely matte finish apply a translucent finishing or setting powder with a kabuki brush. I can highly recommend MAC Blot Powder, however in the photographs I am wearing my own formulation which I hope to be ready in the near future.

It’s important to prime the eyelids before applying eye makeup to make sure that the colour applies intensely and the loose pigment has something to ’stick’ to. My primer of choice at the moment is Two Faced Shadow Insurance which is a non greasy formula that makes your makeup last crease free all day.
Using a small eyeshadow brush apply Car Crash Red on the eyelid, drawing a shape that follows your eyebrow line all the way to your temple. Then apply Black Alice underneath the red eyeshadow in a smaller round shape with a small eyeshadow brush and blend the red and black into each other. Then bring the red eyeshadow around under the black eyeshadow to underneath your eye. Using a medium sized fluffy eyeshadow brush blend the red eyeshadow onto your upper cheek bone. With a chisel eyeshadow brush apply Coma on the inner corner of the eye, bringing the line above the red eyeshadow line.
Apply glitter adhesive (a new product yet to be released by Miss X) on the inner corner under the eyes and allow to dry for 30 seconds before applying Blue Monday glitter in a dabbing motion. Then apply SH-101 under the eyes with a wet small chiseled eyeshadow brush.
Using an angle eyeliner brush, apply Tormentor in a cat eye shape. Line your waterline underneath your eyes using a pencil eyeliner. After the eyeliner has dried, apply Stitched to my Heart false eyelashes so that they line up with your eyeliner line. I put mine slightly to the side so that the lower lashes did not cover up the glittery details under the eye. Next apply Purr false eyelashes onto your upper lids.
As I wanted to draw on dramatic slanted eyebrows that are a different shape to my regular eyebrows, I used a thick consistency concealer (MAC Studio Stick Concealer) to hide the ends of my eyebrows. I then powdered over the eyebrows with foundation and proceeded to fill in the brows with Tormentor eyeliner. Normally I wouldn’t use eyeliner on my eyebrows, but I wanted a strong dramatic line and the gel eyeliner was perfect for that purpose.

With the lips I tried to achieve a soft ’stained’ lip as opposed to a strong defined lip look. Apply the red lip colour in the centre of the lips and then blend it outwards. Then using a lip brush, apply the clear gloss over the top. I used Rimmel 3D Shock Gloss and MAC Holiday ‘Royal Assets’ Lip gloss, but any brand will work. You could also try blending your own lip colour by mixing Car Crash Red in with the clear gloss for perfectly matched lips.

YAY! If you reached the end of this tutorial, you too can be as happy as Miss X with her pet skeleton plushie named Catty. I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial- please stay tuned every week for a new tutorial and makeup tips.

Wonderful tutorial! I love how detailed it is, and how you linked to the colors as you mentioned using them (I think when someone uses four shades of blue, it can get kind of confusing if one doesn’t link back!).
Love this make-up look, and my heart smiles real big when you post pictures of your grin– so lovely!
May 5th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Lovely tutorial!
Ill try this out later :)
May 5th, 2009 at 12:37 am
I think it’s wonderful that you mix the high end products with the cheaper products (Rimmel Gloss) since as I know beauty doesn’t have to break the bank! Yes, though sometimes it is necessary as Studio Fix for the win! I love that product myself!
Can’t wait to buy some of your amazing eyeshadows! :) People may be like WOAH, when they see the price but let me tell you something. It lasts a long long time and the colors are more pigmented than you would get at MAC.
Please do make a mattifier, I have been looking for a good one. :)
Amazing tutorial!

Beautiful tutorial! Will have to try it out sometime. And I love Catty, she’s adorable!
May 5th, 2009 at 4:28 am
This is seriously stunning.
I love the white hair, the gorgeous eyes, the whole look is incredible.
I especially like the gradient effect on the lips where it goes more red near the front.
May 5th, 2009 at 4:33 am
I really love this tutorial, the look is fantastic and I’ll definitily be trying it out later before hopefully investing in some of your products. Although I don’t have any skill or dexterity when it comes to applying make-up
Maybe you should make a video some time to show us all exactly how you do it?
Also, I’m slightly confused… are you wearing two sets of lashes on the top lid at once? I can;t seem to get my head around it!
May 5th, 2009 at 5:53 am
Thanks for that tutorial! I agree, I love how detailed it is, so you can actually follow the steps. I love the look, the contrast of the red and blue, and I always like dramatic, colorful, sweeping cat-eye makeup. I’d love to try it out sometime. I have no makeup-applying abilities, though, I hope I won’t make myself look like a retarded clown, lol.

Ashe Mischief- Hehe! I’m pretty much smiley most of the time, but my evil persona makes most of my photos ‘blue steely’ if you get my drift =) The tutorial took a while to write.. but I think I’m getting the hang of it
Videokid- Please do!
Luise- Practice makes perfect! Yeah I’ve been thinking about video, but I don’t have the ideal space to set it up. I do my makeup in a tiny tiny bathroom on a tiny tiny mirror and there is no where to put the tripod =(
I am wearing lashes on my upper eyelids and ones underneath the eye (but I put them slightly to the side)
Lisa- You just need to practice and try try try! I used to do some pretty bad makeup but you just need to experiment and you’ll surprise yourself with your skills!
May 5th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Miss Destructo- Yeah I am totally not a makeup snob. Nor am I the type that only sticks to one brand… I like to experiment (when I can)… and a lot of the cheaper brands work brilliantly!
Twisted- Weee… catty! She’s one of my favourite plushies. I got her in the USA from Hot Topic in 2007 and she accompanies me on all of my travels.
May 5th, 2009 at 11:43 am
So fucking amazing looking!!! I use most of the same MAC makeup you listed. What a coincidence. The lip makeup looks really cool. I’ll have to try that, and practice a lot before i can get the blending right.

RAD! Makeup tutorials are awesome, you should def. do more :D xx

You made a lovely demo and it is very informative. Thank you very much for helping educate and inspire the rest of us.
I am a little curious of what you use to correct any problems/mistakes/accidents. Do you have a particular makeup remover that you use or is there another trick you might advise for those who are not very steady with their hands?
Also I am curious if your eyebrows are just naturally light or did the Mac Studio Stick Concealer hide them that well? I’ve got really dark eye brows and I’d be curious if such a stick would work for me. I usually keep them waxed but I am interested in this if I wanted to really change the shape.

Sweetly evil look! Love the hair, they eyes, the lot. Great tutorial and I’m looking forward to reading more. Thanks to Super Kawaii Mama for leading me this way.
May 6th, 2009 at 10:45 am
AAAmmmaaaazing!! im only recently experinmenting with makeup… i bought some awesome iridescent green eyeshadow from MAC and it kept falling off my lid! I was like what the? I can’t even get eyeshadow to stay on?? I’ll have to try your primer idea..
For me think my favourite is the gradient lip style just coz it’s the most accessible for me and don’t recall seeing that before..
but I really do love it all esp the lashes and your wicked mad hair!! your like a superhero. xxo
May 7th, 2009 at 3:23 am
Lovely^^ I was thinking about buying Car Crash Red…and a load of other colours, but I just don’t have the money :(… Yet >=).
It should be my birthday now. I want money! xD
May 7th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Uh happy about the tutorial<3
Try to do it next time<3
May 8th, 2009 at 8:49 am
Hiiiii!!! I found you via the lovely Super Kawaii Mama….LOVE your blog and your style. 100% awesomeness :-D
May 9th, 2009 at 12:37 am
Just found your blog. Absolutely love your style!
May 9th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
you look fantastic…!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 10th, 2009 at 12:50 am
Looks amazing, it wouldn’t ever occur to me to do my lips like that!
And a little OT, but where did you get the fantastic hair from…did you style it yourself or did it come like that? :D
May 11th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Ashley- Yeah I find MAC is the best match for my skin tone. Blending is the key to all makeup =)
Kate- Wee… I’m going to be doing them every week. Or.. until I totally run out of ideas!
Typhoid- Yeah I’m surprised how much I actually like blue. Yay!
vustoxual- Yes I hope it helps you honey!
Kali_Lynn- Firstly I do the makeup on top of my eyes first. If there is any fallout (which there normally is) I use a baby wipe to clean it up. Then I do all of the makeup under my eyes. I always have baby wipes on hand for mistakes
My eyebrows are super dark. I think the stick concealer works well.. but it’s not the best I think. I would prefer to use wax (preferably the stuff used in theatrical contexts) and then powder over the top. That’s the best way to conceal eyebrows in my opinion.
Icy- Thanks for visiting sweetie!
cookie- To make your MAC stuff stick.. I would definitely use primer. MAC make a good one too. It makes everything stick, especially loose makeup. If that doesn’t work, you might be able to mix it with some mixing medium so you can apply it wet and it will stick much better.
I’ve never done the gradient lip thing before either, but it worked a treat =)
Lady Hypocryte - Yeah birthday money is always totally sweet. I should offer gift vouchers or something
Sha- YAY!
Esz- Thanks for visiting and for your sweet comment.
Freya- Thanks sweetie! Thanks for stopping by.
casual cutie- Danke!
Steph- I got the wig from a shop in Chinatown. The wig does not come like that.. I had to do a lot of cutting and styling.. backcombing and add big slabs of fake hair too =)
May 15th, 2009 at 6:30 am
Wow, this tutorial is amazing!
I always love make up tutorials, they make you experiment with things that you’d never normally have thought of
I love primer too
I like doing dramatic make up, so i find primer helps so much, especially when using MAC!
I love your make up in this, and I like your use of blue - it really suits you!
I love Blue make up, as i have blue eyes, so it makes them stand out more, when done in electric blue, then fading into black eyeliner
xx
May 17th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
I love the tutorial (it explains so well everything, impossible to confuse), and of course the effect!
I’ll try it as soon as I’ll get crazy spending money ^__^
Oh, and btw… where did you get that lovely plushie?
May 24th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Wow, you are AMAZING!

So gorgeous! Great tutorial.
But for some reason I see the lips being black-purple rather than pink and red.
But I suppose that’s more about preference right? XD
November 12th, 2009 at 7:59 am
You always have exceptional hair pieces, where did you get the one in this tutorial? Do you make them yourself?
November 18th, 2009 at 8:41 am
Hey where do you get your high fashion clothes from? and they custom?…I am just obsessed with your makeup:).
May 26th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
I love the hair, how do you get it like that!?!
July 7th, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Love your look…strong, exaggerated eyes are a favourite look of mine!
Looking forward to you bringing out more products too!
I’m gonna keep a look out for wigs on sale and practice cutting & styling them as they really finish your look off perfectly….thanks for taking the time to do this tutorial x
