Style Division: Punk Victorian Circus Oddity
By Destroyx | January 27, 2009

I see cupcakes!

Michella, me and Clara (the lovely bridesmaids)

Me and the Zoogster (it was pretty sunny, hence the cowboy hat!)

Detail shots

Cupcakes make people silly!

Hehe… don’t try to make me laugh while I’m eating my cupcake damnit!
Here is the outfit I wore to Em & Leo’s punk Victorian wedding. It was too hot to wear the gloves that I had planned, but I’m pretty happy with how the outfit turned out. I decided to do a circus inspired Victorian look (I think I must have circus on the brain!) The photos don’t really show my peacock inspired makeup, but in real life it was much more shimmery. I also got to road test my spat design out. Spats are a great way to liven up any shoe. However they are quite complex and time consuming to make so I’m not sure if it’s worth making them to sell for that reason. I still need to adjust the pattern slightly and add a strap that goes underneath the heel.
Top: Lip Service
Corset: Louise Black (available from etsy)
Skirt: Beyond the Trapdoor
Spats, stripy hair bow and cameo brooch: Me!
Shoes: TUK

Wow DestroyX! You look absolutely astounding! I love your outfit, it’s so beautiful! You look like you had a wonderful (and cupcake-y) time ;)
January 27th, 2009 at 2:03 am
I love the spats! (Also, the skeleton graphic on your corset!! Spooky-awesome!)
January 27th, 2009 at 2:25 am
You look amazing in black and white.
January 27th, 2009 at 2:27 am
How do you like your Louise Black corset? I’ve been a big fan, but I wonder how it would compare to other brands… especially the lack of a front busk! Yikes!
And your spats are amazing. For what it’s worth, I think they’re worth trying to sell because they look so different from what I see others selling.
It looks like you’re pulling the tulle off the cupcakes in the first picture ;)

Twisted- Aww.. thanks sweetie! I did have an amazing time, it was so much fun!
Birdie- Yeah I love them too, I think I’m going to make them in matte black + shiny black and red and black ones too.
Shannon- Thanks honey! I love black and white, it’s my new ‘thing’. I think I’ve been overly inspired by My Fair Lady.
Ashe Mischief- I do like the corset a lot. I have 2 of them actually. I wouldn’t say the are the most supportive corsets compared to the other ones I own, however they are very comfortable and you could wear it all day without having a problem. They are not double boned and the corset doesn’t seem to have as many layers as some. However they don’t wrinkle terribly and provide a moderate cinch. The only problem I have with this corset is that it only came with a short lace which meant that I had to lace it up while I was wearing the corset (very difficult!). I will have to put longer ribbon in so that I can prelace it and pull it over my head or something.
Yeah I love the spats and a lot of people were asking if they could order one. I will rethink if I can make more of them.. they are just time consuming because of the back lacing, edge binding and button snaps. Also I’d have to make a small and large size for taller people with larger calves. I wonder how much people would be willing to pay for them? Hmmm… I will do some research now =)

Those spats are absolutely gorgeous! I would actually kill for a pair of those, I’ve been looking for some for ages because my current pair (WWII surplus ones) have unsurprisingly fallen apart from my constant abuse.
And wonderful taste with that corset ;) I have one myself!

Victorian-esque is one of my favourite styles and you have pulled it off wonderfully!
January 27th, 2009 at 3:51 am
I love Louise Black. And OMG, I came across BaroqueAndRoll on Etsy just the other day and saw some lovely things.
Looks like you had a great time, I haven’t been to a wedding for years and certainly not an alternative-dress wedding, I kind of wish I could go to one just so I could dress up, hehe.
January 27th, 2009 at 4:19 am
I love that outfit! I would invest in a pair of spats, they are really cute and really liven up the shoes.
That looks like a pretty sweet wedding! The brides dress is so different…its always great to see brides that rock a dress thats not white!
January 27th, 2009 at 4:59 am
Hi Beautiful Destroyx(:
is it your real white ( bleached ) hair???
or is it a wig?
it suites you soooooo good;)
btw, will be that gorgeous brooch in stock again?
January 27th, 2009 at 5:51 am
You look so cute! Those shoes and that corset and just everything…gah, you’re gorgeous.
January 27th, 2009 at 6:13 am
I love the outfit!
I’m still not so pretty sure about the stockings, but.. uhm… well, it’s still remains black-and-white (or rather black-and-transparent), and if you like it, then do it your way :D
xoxo

Oh My Goodness!
Your outfit is absolutely stunning, and worked so, so well! And it looks like you had an amazing time!
Your corset is gorgeous, and the spats really liven up the shoes
and the cupcakes look lovely too, yum! :)

January 27th, 2009 at 7:41 am
She just shipped me that waist cincher today actually! :D
January 27th, 2009 at 8:51 am
Ooh yes, I’ve seen that spine corset before- it’s a really unusual design. Me likey!
I’ve actually been designing some spats lately too! They are such a versatile accessory. Those ones of yours are just droolworthy! I’m obsessed with black and white lately too (trying to pull away from my RED addiction!), so your outfit there is pure eye candy for me!
Your blog is seriously addictive!
January 27th, 2009 at 9:35 am
I love your spats and corset, a very nice outfit!
January 27th, 2009 at 9:45 am
The corset is amazing. I love the “x-ray” part: it’s very Angelspit, I was surprised to see you didn’t design it yourself.
Also, do you know who made the cupcakes? I’m a cupcake junkie and am always looking for amazing new bakeries.
January 27th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Looks like an awesome wedding! love the outfit! :D
and of course you got your cupcakes! :D
Next time I see you, I must give you a cupcake…or two. :D
January 27th, 2009 at 11:02 am
What an amazing outfit! The skeleton picture thingie looks really cool. =D I can see you love cupcakes. A victorian wedding sounds fun. More interesting then normal white dress black tuxedo weddings.
January 27th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Love the outfit [of course, of course]
Although, I have a BONE TO PICK with YOU [haha] You totally bought the Nubby art piece I have wanted for ages! Being a poor student sucks! That piece has been online for a while though, I should have just bought it! Although, I’m glad if anyone else has it, that you do! Just don’t leave me alone in your haus or it might go walk-about…
I’m really into circus stuff too, mostly of the literary variety. My novel has a circus girl in it, so I tend to do a lot of research on the subject. Anyways, if you are on a circus kick and you like to read, I suggest getting a copy of “GeeK Love” and “The curious life of Tristan Smith” …amazing fictional books on the darker side of circus.
January 27th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Ooh. P.s. Hey! I just realised I have those shoes you have on too! great minds think alike hehe :)
Except I can’t walk in them.
Well, I can, but in a fashion which gives me the appearance of being really constipated or something.
Must practice in loungeroom!
January 27th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Kari- YAY! We have the same corset tastes!! The corset is amazing isn’t it. She is so freaking talented. You look great in your corset. I will think about making more spats, I think, if you’d wear them =)
Lisa - Buy lots of stuff from Baroque and Roll.. she’s amazing!… and so is Louise Black actually.
Ash- She’s so talented she made her own wedding dress and it looks amazing doesn’t it!
Blitz- Yeah.. it was so much fun!
Ashley- It was a very original wedding, I agree.. it’s so much more exciting to have one like this.
Bex- Hehe… yeah, I am a poor student too, but I saved =) She will make more stuff soon.. and then you can get one too. It really is amazing! Oooo.. i will have to get a hold of that book for sure, that sounds right up my alley.
Harpijat - It’s a wig.. but my hair is actually bleached to white underneath too. The brooches are currently being made. I’m in the process of finishing a batch of 10 of them.
Delilah- *blushes* thanks sweetie!
Murdercute1994 - these are some of my favourite stockings, i love them!
scarymary- AWESOME! I hope to see piccies of you in it. I’m sure you will love the corset
simi - spats are awesome! I can’t wait to see yours, do post photos when you finish them. As much as I love red/black/white it’s fun to try other stuff too… but I’m always going to be a red gal.
Mademoiselle Baudelaire - Thanks sweetie!
Liam- hehe.. yes.. it’s like an x-ray. It’s fun isn’t it? I think the cupcakes were made by the brides mum… so they tasted extra good.
kara (venacava666)- Yes please!
simi - Yeah I love these shoes, they are the most comfortable heels I own, but that’s because I have a lot of practice. My friend has the same ones and she says they are the most uncomfortable shoes she has ever worn =( Maybe it depends on the wearer. I put insoles in mine and walk around in them all day.
January 28th, 2009 at 12:23 am
You looks AMAZING! And those boots, ARGH! I may well die. Plus a cupcake tier and everything. I love this post!
January 28th, 2009 at 12:23 am
Correction- spats! <3
January 28th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Ah, I’ve been lusting after that corset on Etsy for quite some time! And you made the best outfit imaginable around it!
January 28th, 2009 at 6:54 am
Your outfit is, as usual, all-around gorgeous. But those spats are SO amazing! They would sell incredibly well if you were to make more, I think :)
By the way, I really wanted to ask you - what is it like studying in Germany if you don’t speak german all too well? Can you only get into certain schools? I really want to study in Leipzig or maybe even Berlin, but german is only my 3rd language, so I suspect it make be difficult.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
you look incredible, and those cupcakes look so yummy! also, i LOVE your spats, i would definitely buy a pair if you put some up for sale!
January 28th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Where did you get this cute wig?
January 29th, 2009 at 2:43 am
Em- I’m glad you like them sweetie! Yay for cupcakes! w00t!
Alice- aww.. thanks.. you should get the corset, it’s well worth it!
Mahlin- Thanks lovely! Yeah I might make more spats, people seem to like them. I just need to find the time. To answer your question about German, you can go to some universities that have classes in English if that helps. However it’s best if you learn German. You will have a better time studying there and you can learn more because you can have a choice of doing more subjects.
Gem- Thanks for the compliment! I will consider making more for sure =)
Harpijat- I got the wig base from a market in Sydney, but I heavily modified and styled it myself. I used to do hair extensions and wig making actually, so that’s why I use wigs a lot! You should go and find a wig and style it because then it’ll be quite original!
January 29th, 2009 at 8:31 am
Louise Black makes awesome corsets hmm =) I’ve seen her etsy shop before, and I always liked her creations, I even thought about buying the one you’re wearing at the photo’s! And you look so cute when laughing ^^
January 29th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
I do believe I’m suffering from a huge case of spats-envy! Yours look absolutely fantastic! They look so well made.
I’ve tried making spats in the past for my costuming hobby, but I’m yet to get things ‘just right’. I’m definitely going to have to keep refining my pattern!
January 30th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
A huge amazing hoorah for your outfit at the wedding Amelia, it was fricking stunning! My parents are still talking about it and i fear the perth gals may try to pop you in their suitcases when they go back home hehehe.. dont worry though, ill save ye!
The new style blog is also awesomeawesomeawesome!
January 30th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
That’s a crazy-cool wedding!
You and everyone else look very sexy and cute!!! ^_^
I think most people (and me!) would drool more over you than over that cupcake. ;D
January 30th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
[...] AHHHHHH, cupcakes! Just step away, and you’ll be fine. [...]
January 30th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
I love the outfit! Those gigantic bows seem to suit you quite well. The spats are my absolute favorite though, i love wearing stuff over shoes (hence my collection of stripey legwarmers), but nothing this elegant. Very lovely!
January 31st, 2009 at 5:45 am
XD CUPCAKES! That would be cool if you made an outfit thing related to cupcakes. Seeing you dressed up as a cute cupcake! <3
February 2nd, 2009 at 7:18 am
Omg… Cupcakes!
And such a beautiful outfit..
February 2nd, 2009 at 9:27 am
I adore the outfit! I’m a big fan of (red), black, and white. (Probably part of the reason why I was attracted to Angelspit in the first place! :)
The spats are amazing. (I didn’t know there was a word for them until now. So it took me a second to figure out which part of the outfit you were talking about.)
I’ve been planning on making a pair to liven up my sneakers for a while now.
I really love the bolero/top thing you’re wearing with the corset.
You have such an amazing collection of clothes/shoes. I’m guessing all your spare money goes towards saving up for all this stuff then?
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:41 am
Those cupcakes look delicious…
February 4th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
I love the pats too, and I would really love you to make some to sell… I WANT THEM!!! XD In case you make them, where will I find them? Ebay maybe? ^.^ Pleaaaaase make them!
