The Diary of Miss X: 26-01-09
By Destroyx | January 26, 2009

41 DEGREES: Last week was ridiculously hot. On Saturday it got to 41 degrees (105.8 F)! Every day was hot, sticky, humid and disgusting. So as you can imagine, productivity for me was at an all time low as I wilted in the heat. I’m looking forward to cooler weather this week.

MORE BOWS: It was my friend Emily’s wedding and I decided to make her a deluxe bow brooch for her special day. She’s a punk rock girl with a vintage twist (and an incredibly talented clothing designer and burlesque performer), so I fashioned the bow from green leopard print cotton drill, cut Czech glass beads and ornate metal findings. It took quite a long time to make, but the outcome was worth it. Emily and I are collaborating on lots of fun stuff in the future… I love her so much! I’m currently designing her website, so you’ll be hearing a lot more about her soon. Check out her myspace page here and her fashion label Baroque and Roll.

HOOP LOVING: My beautiful hoops came in the mail (much to the confusion of the Australia Post workers who wondered what was in the strangely shaped parcel). The adult sized hoops are much easier to hoop with than the smaller child sized hoops and they just look so pretty when they spin. I’m officially addicted and I’ve been going hooping at midnight to avoid the glaring sun and the children in the park.

I HEART NUBBY: I’m sure you all know about the genius of Nubby Twiglet. This week I received a beautiful piece of her fine art in the mail. It’s a resin coated collaged ceramic cross which is simply breath taking in real life. I consider Nubby to be my evil design twin, as we seem to share similar tastes in many things- so her artwork is very much at home in my red, black and white studio. I also received a gorgeous t-shirt and some badges which I can’t wait to wear.

AEROSOL ATTACK: I spent most of this week set building (in the hot sun!). So I painted quite a few backdrops and props and somehow managed to use up 12 spray cans in one day. Yikes!

PUNK ROCK HENS PARTY: We had a pretty damned crazy hen’s party at the Ice and Slice in Newtown. Unfortunately the power blacked out for 1.5 hours, right in the middle of dinner. The waiters didn’t know what to do, so they provided lots of free drinks and food so that we wouldn’t leave while they fixed the situation! We didn’t mind.

THE VICTORIAN PUNK ROCK WEDDING: The Victorian picnic wedding of Emily and Leo was one of the prettiest and sincere weddings I’ve ever attended. Everyone in the bridal party looked amazing as they were resplendent in Victorian attire. We sat on picnic blankets and ate out of our mini hamper baskets.

CUPCAKE MANIA: By the time we got our wedding cupcakes, everyone had gone a little crazy and with the help of a little sugar, it was time for some serious partying.

My week was extremely nuts and this coming week is shaping up to be no different. It’s definitely the way to live!
Do you have anything exciting planned for this week?

I feel like it is now totally obligatory for me to jump into the hoop craze that Gala has begun.
January 26th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Samantha- You have to! It’s SO MUCH FUN. Surprisingly fun in fact. It doesn’t feel like exercise even, because you are concentrating so hard on keeping the hoop in motion. I can’t wait to try more tricks later too. I even got Zoog in on the action. =)
January 26th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
41 degrees O_O Okay, I’ll stop complaining abou the cold here x] *walks around in long-sleeved shirt and 2 vests*
That brooch you made is absolutely lovely, it’s so..unique!^^ It’s very cute too and fits Emily well (She’s beautiful!)
And that wedding looked like so much fun! And..you’ve got a tan? :P You’re only a bit lighter then I am now!:P Well, maybe a bit more (I’ve got a Dutch mother ad a Jamaican dad, I’m mixed^^). Winter makes me pale (and people always stare at me when I say that…).
xoxoxo
PS: You’re cupcake is so cute! How did it taste? ^^
January 26th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
41 degrees!!! And that is why I can never ever move to Australia. I will melt!
Your week looks so crazy pretty, your hoops are gorgeous and the wedding looks amazing. :D
January 26th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
that wedding looks so adorable!
January 26th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Such a beautiful and splendid wedding!
I love how everything was exquisitely decorated.
(Especially the cupcakes!)
105.8 F?!!!!!! That’s hotter than here on Guam!
And we’re not even that far apart (I think?).
Ooo. Nice hula hoops! I’d get into that as soon as the softball season is over!
Man! So many games this week, but it’s all good, dirty, muddy fun! =]
January 26th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Omigod! Cupcakes! And I’m on a diet! Damn you! *simultaneously wipes away drool and tears*
It looked like an exquisite wedding. The bridal dress was gorgeous! Did she make it herself? Lovely bow you made too :)
Oooh! how excitement- my hoop should be arriving soon too! Squeeeeeee!!!! It’s red and white striped, with little red glittery hearts! Yumskis. Like a candycane in drag or something.
I wish I had some exciting stuff planned, but my life is pretty boring at the moment! So thankyou for keeping me entertained with your gorgeous postings!
January 26th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Looks like you had a very action-packed week! And, I’m glad the art arrived safely.

That victorian punk rock wedding looks to die for! Glad you had such a great week and hope this one will be a litle less hot for you :)
January 27th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Sounds like you had an amazing time DX (besides the humid weather)! The brooch is absolutely beautiful, and the hoops look so cool! I bet you’re an expert on them now ;) And what an amazing wedding it must have been. Punk, victorian, and cupcakes? Wow!
Anyway, I’m very glad you’ve had a nice week.
January 27th, 2009 at 1:14 am
:D i see lots of green and black, do these colours relate tothe new angelspit concepts you where talking about before? (probably not, but i like a good mystery ;)
im actually ill atm so my weeks gonna be borrrrring
iv started a few collages, made from issues of i-d magzine from two years ago. Have you heard of i-d magazine? I think it’d be quite up your street DX :)

Lady Hypocryte- Hehe.. yeah I get pretty tanned in the summer! I do it naturally. Oh, the cupcake tasted amazing!! Emily is AMAZING.. and she looked beautiful! I was very pleased for her.
Ms Constantine- I know… it’s ridiculous. I should move to Wellington instead. When I visited there the weather was nice… but it got really cold in the winter. I mean REALLY COLD (even compared to European winters!)
Jody Pham- Wasn’t it gorgeous! Everything was planned out so prettily… but of course, what would you expect from a fashion designer =)
Typhoid- Yeah it’s RIDICULOUS… it felt like Mars or something. Good luck with your softball. I was terrible at it in school.. hehe.
simi - Yes she made the dress… she is an extremely talented designer! She’ll have better photos up soon, so you should check out the detail shots of the dress and hat. Her clothing range is exquisite too. Oooohhh… where did you get your hoop from? It had hearts? that’s so freaking cool. Be sure to post photos when you get it.
Nubby- I was about to email you about how much I love my cross! My friend Wendy just bought the other one =) … and another friend wants one now too!
Kari- The heat is the killer really, it makes working a lot harder. I hope you have an amazing week too.
Twisted- Thanks sweetie! The wedding was amazing and was so much fun. You can’t really get a better combination of elements =)
Videokid- Green and black is not the new Angelspit concept… it relates to the Baroque and roll branding (main colours lime + black). I’m using it a lot in her new site. However, I’m getting into the colour green actually and I’m hoping to use it in more stuff in the future instead of red.
Yup, I love ID mag.. I used to have a stack, but I threw them away when I moved OS. I should get more mags actually! I hope your week isn’t as boring as you anticipate it will be.
January 27th, 2009 at 5:30 am
I like the green =]
A lot.
January 27th, 2009 at 5:56 am
The bride’s dress looks so fantastic. I hope they have a long and happy life together. :)
I had actually never heard of Nubby Twiglet until I read this and after looking at her site, I have to admit she is a great artist. ^^ You two do have pretty similar tastes. Reminds me of ransom notes and pop art mixed together. Hmm…
January 27th, 2009 at 6:23 am
Damn… 41 degrees! The highest temperature I’ve been trough was like 34 degrees, and that was enough for me.
I really like the bow brooch - it simply looks fantastic!
It’s cool you got a good time - I personally have no party-life right now… but at least I’ll have time to learn, how to be an administrator (I just got been chosen as one in L’Histoire Gothique cult on VF) :D
Oh, and about the hoops… a picture of you with it would be nice ^^
Take care xoxo
January 27th, 2009 at 6:52 am
Wow, sounds like you had an awesome week!
But how on earth did you stand the heat?
I’d seriously die if i went to australia, I really, truly would! It’s pretty damn cold an rainy here!
The broach is lovely, and the bride looks absolutely stunning!
and your hoops are amazing! Your hoop exercise looks so much more fun than my CV workout >.<
My week looks set to be dull, stressful, and full of last minute drawings and photography… which should be a good thing, right? Oh well, hopefully my hair will turn out nicely, though, I’m dyeing it later this week XD
xx

Those cupcakes look delicious! The flowers on top look so cute. Hope you are getting a hang of the hula hooping because i’m not.
January 28th, 2009 at 1:25 am
XD I was wondering how the hoops were going to be shipped in the mail. I half-expected to see circular cardboard packaging :D
And I realy like how the bow came out. ..oh, so i’ve been meaning to ask, were the skull pendants that you made hard to make?
January 28th, 2009 at 6:48 am
A Punk Victorian wedding sounds amazing! What a creative idea :) and oh, all those yummy-looking cupcakes…
But 41 degrees sound awful… I rarely leave the house if it’s over 26… of course it’s hotter in Australia, though.
I think I need to take up hula hooping once again (you’ve inspired me!) I used to dream of being a hula hoop artist(is that what it’s called) at a circus, when I was a little girl.
I should have a hoop or two stashed away somewhere. I think they’re orange…
For my week though, there’s nothing more exciting than going to school and maybe finish my crinoline (which is also called a “hoop skirt”, hehe), oh and watching the third DVD of my fav cyberpunk anime, Ergo Proxy! I just got it ^_^
January 28th, 2009 at 7:47 am
Looks like you had an amazing week, topped off with a cupcake tower!!! Oooo yummy goodness! The hens party looks hella fun!!!
January 29th, 2009 at 2:49 am
IncestSisters- Yeah Green is totally my new favourite colour. I feel like I’m cheating on red though!
Delilah- The bride is really talented and beautiful isn’t she =) I’m glad you like Nubby’s stuff.. she’s awesome.
Murdercute1994 - yeah, the heat is ridiculous here.. you can’t get any work done really.
aL3x - yeah I had no idea how they would come.. I was actually suprised they didn’t come in a box =) The pendants are not hard to make, but you can make them out of fimo too with a mold.
Blitz- your week sounds like it’ll be full of art.. that sounds great!
Ashley - My hooping skills are limited. I can keep the hoop up, and walk in a circle… but that’s it so far.. no fancy tricks or anything =)
Mahlin- hooping is really fun! Go and try it =) I hope your week goes well, it sounds pretty fun!
Stylish Thought - nothing tops a week off like cupcakes… that’s a certainty. =) The hens party was extremely fun.. lots of ridiculousness ensued!
January 29th, 2009 at 5:01 am
argh! too hot!

“I’m officially addicted and I’ve been going hooping at midnight to avoid the glaring sun and the children in the park.”
I read that as “To avoid the glares of the children” Hahaha
I was thinking to myself, children glare at her? Envious children!
February 14th, 2009 at 4:12 am
i love that green bow..its beautiful…i want one…
April 13th, 2009 at 12:30 am
I think the Australia Post workers were probably entertained for hours trying to figure out what was in your parcel (it’s a REALLY boring job!)
If you could send some of the hot weather towards the UK, that’d be much appreciated. ;)

NICE CUPCAKE :O
