Style Division: Circus Girl Chic Edition
By Destroyx | January 13, 2009

My rendition of Circus Girl Chic, executed in red polka dots and giant bows. Although the weather was unbearably hot and windy today, I pressed on with this outfit I had planned. It was so windy that my contact lenses dried out, even making one of them pop out! If you look closely, you can see in one of the photos I only have one contact in =)
I was so pleased to finally wear my Todd Lynn for Topshop tuxedo jacket which was my Christmas present from Zoog. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it in the future, as it can be styled in so many ways. I was also extremely happy to be wearing clothes and accessories I had rediscovered while I was cleaning my wardrobe out. So many of my clothes get buried and forgotten, so it’s lovely to give new life to them when your perspectives change over time.
Ruffle top: Mango
Tuxedo jacket: Todd Lynn for Topshop
Red bow watch: Betsey Johnson
Red & black spectator mary janes: Pleaser
Stockings: A lingerie shop in the QVB Sydney (I can’t remember the name)
Diamonte gloves: A gift from a good friend
Red & black polka dot corset: Deadlygirlz
Polka dot tutu and tie: Maya Hansen (bought at WGT, but she’s a Spanish designer)
Giant red satin hair bow: Me!
Striped suspenders: Camden markets
Purse: Hells Bells NYC

Stylish Thought- I’m glad you like the bow, it’s pretty big isn’t it? When I made it.. I was like.. man, this bow is giant. I wonder if I can pull it off. So I decided I needed big hair to go with it. =) I might make a few more, but a tiny with smaller to sell in my store.
LĂșthien- I love this corset.. it’s one of my favourites. I’m glad you liked the outfit. =)

WOW! Love love, LOVE the look. :)
It’s really cool all of the graffiti you find around to photograph in front of…
Also, what I would GIVE for it to be unbearably warm right now where I live! There’s about a foot of snow outside, and a stiff breeze blowing… brr!
January 13th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Wow! Who took the photos??

January 13th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
I think I have a girl crush on you Miss A. Do you do all your own photos or do you have a photographer on hand? Newtown has some of the best posing sites around with all the street art and cool alley ways. Your lucky to have that at your back door.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:06 am

January 15th, 2009 at 2:52 am
This has to be my favoite style division update so far… its like.. Gothic Lolita gone seriously wrong.. mechancal loli even. the huge bow and the hair absolutely make the ensemble… and i love your use of the graffiti backgrounds.. i love graffiti art. it can be so inspiring.
January 15th, 2009 at 3:06 am
I absolutely LOVE it! *_*
It’s so chic, but it’s also so “you” ^^
January 15th, 2009 at 6:01 am
Nubby- You my friend are WOW. =)
Megami- I might do a tutorial for it actually. I just have to iron out a few practicality problems that I noticed when I made it. I might make a few substitutions to make it easier for people to replicate. Thanks for the idea!
Lady Hypocryte- Thanks sweetie! You are too cute. =)
Mind Destroying Angel- that’s the best part of being me.. I can pretty much wear whatever I want when I want, except I’m too grubby to dress like this every day.
Tess- Yeah the graffiti is awesome isn’t it? There is so much good street art around this area it rocks! Snow can be icky too.. I like spring and autumn!
Bianca- zoog, my main dude took the photos. He’s great isn’t he, especially because our camera sucks.
Ravencroft- I like the bow too! I was like.. man… it’s so huge! But it went ok in the end.
Ms Constantine- I’m a total sucker for details. I pretty much think about them all of the time =) I am also going to do the tuxedo with pants too.. I think it’s a great piece to have in your staple wardrobe.
Ashley - he’s a rare man. Talented and stylish. =)
super kawaii mama- aawww… shucks!
My dude Zoog does the photos for me, so it’s nice not to have to work stuff out with a pro photographer. I LOVE newtown because it has the best back streets!
Vustoxn- Thanks! I do try!
Bittersweet12- You’re cute! You don’t need to kill anyone for it! You can make one!
Purr_Dee_Fae- Thanks wendy! Yeah the wind was really gusty at one point.. and Zoog’s like ‘work with it baby.. ‘ HAH
Val- thanks for the comment and compliment!
simi - awww.. don’t say that. I think you are amazing! Everyone has different qualities!
Rose - thanks missy.. but don’t be envious! =)
Lisa - thanks lisa!
kara- thanks Kara! I like the shoes too! I got them from Germany!
Erin - you are too kind.
st.Lucifer- yeah, I LOVE their corsets. They are so well made and amazing for the price. They are highly recommended
BoyOfTheEnders- Hehehe…. you’re cute. You just need to spoil her rotten with beautiful gifts and love.. she will shine!
Arawyn- I’ll let you in on a secret.. I’m not always this well attired. This is me on a good day =)
Staar- I’m glad!
Rae- Hehe… that’s a good interpretation. It’s my favourite Style Division so far too. I hope I can do a better one next week.
Murdercute1994- Chic is good!
January 15th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Awesome outfit miss x!
May I ask, how do you think i could incorporate this sort of style into everyday wear (like school and stuff)
I’ve been totally inspired by the circus girl chic thing. I’ve made some stuff =)
xx
January 16th, 2009 at 2:10 am
Of course chic is good… but in your version, it just looks awesome! *_*
January 16th, 2009 at 9:03 am
You’re so dangerously beautiful!!
Even with only one contact lens. ;D
And I find it very wonderful that you were able to salvage old clothes and accessories and incorporate it into a fantastic outfit! ^_^
And the DIY bow is so cuuuute!!!!!

Oh! And, just wondering…
You have lots of fun and creativity with making bows!
I myself have a little obsession with nylon craft ribbons, so I was just curious about how you would use them.
I usually do the basic bow-tie for my projects, or I use them as accessories (i.e. tie them to belt loops, to cellphones, and sometimes use them as a choker!).
And I would also like to know how you make your own bows. ^_^
(But I can understand if you want to leave me clueless so I can buy bows from you! ;D I wouldn’t mind! :)
January 16th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Oh the photos are deviliciously excellent, you look fabulous :)
And even though the “goth circus style” has already been established pretty good ’til now, you, however, added a new, classic and refreshing mark to it!
The monster bow to the awesome hair and the costume stuff of course fuck shit :B
You really are damn photogenic, it so looks like a pro photograph series :]
You’re always an inspiration ,what ever you do, even to guys haha. Your ideas (as well as Angelspit and the Krankhaus + BDI concepts) inspired me for my big art drawing project I’m doing right now for my school graduation. Just THANKS for that!
xx chris

your outfit is fucking adorable! xoxo
January 17th, 2009 at 1:51 am
You look amazing!! Keep doing what you’re doing, you are a huge inspiration for me!!!
January 17th, 2009 at 3:31 am
I’ve never seen anybody get away with wearing mixed patterns.
Not only do you get away with it, but it actually looks WONDERFUL.
The last photo looks like a lot of fun. Was it actually that windy, or did Mr. Karl carry a fan out for you? Haha

January 17th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Miss Laurabell - maybe you could wear cute accessories in your hair. Staying stylish in school is pretty tough! I would suggest a smaller bow headband or cute earrings, perhaps with a a stripy or polka dot pattern.
Typhoid- Bow making is pretty much about experimentation and what kind of bow you want to acheive. I make my bows out of satin or wide ribbon. Generally, you can’t get a nice poofy bow unless it’s quite wide. So start with a nice wide stretch of ribbon and you’ll get a lot of volume. I might do a tutorial on this because it’s difficult to explain with writing I’m afraid!
NachtDigital - Hey Chris! Thanks so much for your compliments. I am so glad that we can inspire you. I hope your final project goes well… you must be a talented drawer!
Jody Pham- Thanks sweetie…
Reverie1017 - Thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate it.
Leesy- Yeah.. mixed patterns.. lets do it baby! It was SO WINDY on the day, it was ridiculous! There was no fan required.. just nature!
January 19th, 2009 at 1:36 am
Gosh! You look so beautiful DestroyX! :) And thank you so much for sharing the clothing links. By the way, what are your experiences with wearing contact lenses for the first time? I was considering buying some (theatrical/fashion lenses), but from what I’ve heard they’re pretty difficult to get used to.

What a gorgeous shoot - such bold styling. You are gorgeous.
January 25th, 2009 at 11:31 am
Hehe. Don’t worry, lovely!
When I took a closer look at one of your bows on your other blogs, I got a vague idea of just how you did it.
I’m a rather quick learner. =] No need to stress out too much about a tutorial. I can understand that you are very busy.
Take care, lovely!
